What this service does

Cert is an SSL certificate monitoring tool that checks TLS certificates and DNS health for domains you register. It is provided free of charge for demo use and by license for full use.

Cert is a personal project developed in free time by SS Data AS. SS Data AS is not currently an operational company. The service is provided as-is with no uptime guarantees.

Data we store

Account data

When you register, we store your email address and a bcrypt-hashed password (the original password is never stored). We also record the date your account was created and the date of your last login.

Certificate and DNS data

All domain records you add are stored in a private SQLite database on a server in Norway. Certificate check results and DNS health data are stored per domain and linked to your account only. Your data is never shared with other users or third parties.

What we do NOT collect

  • We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party scripts
  • We do not store IP addresses or browser fingerprints
  • We do not serve advertisements
  • We do not sell or share your data with anyone

Cookies & sessions

We use a single session cookie named cert_user to keep you signed in. This cookie contains a random session token — no personal data is embedded in it. It expires after 8 hours of inactivity.

No third-party cookies are set. No advertising cookies are used.

External connections

To check certificate validity and DNS health, Cert connects directly to the domains you add (to retrieve TLS handshake data) and queries public DNS resolvers. These connections originate from the server, not your browser. No data about these lookups is shared externally.

If you configure email notifications, Cert sends outbound email via your configured SMTP server. If you configure Microsoft Teams notifications, Cert sends POST requests to your Teams webhook URL.

Data retention & deletion

Your data is stored for as long as your account exists. If you want your account and all associated data permanently deleted, contact us and we will remove everything within a reasonable timeframe.

When an admin deletes an account via the admin panel, all certificates, DNS history, customers, and technicians linked to that account are permanently and immediately removed.

Security

  • All traffic is encrypted in transit via HTTPS (TLS 1.2+)
  • Passwords are hashed with bcrypt (cost factor 10) — never stored in plaintext
  • The admin panel is protected by IP allowlist, password, and optional TOTP
  • Session tokens are cryptographically random and stored in memory only
  • The database is stored on a private server not accessible from the public internet

Terms of use

Acceptable use

You may use Cert to monitor SSL certificates and DNS health for domains your organisation operates or manages. You may not use the service for any unlawful purpose or attempt to access other users' data.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" without any warranty of availability, fitness for a particular purpose, or data integrity. Certificate check intervals are best-effort and should not be relied upon as the sole means of expiry monitoring.

Limitation of liability

SS Data AS shall not be liable for any loss resulting from missed certificate expiry notifications, DNS issues, or other service interruptions.

Changes to these terms

We may update this document from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
